印画紙の上に植物や鉱石を置く。
それらは同じ元素から生まれても同じものは1つとして存在しない。
再現不可能な姿は私達のようだと思う。

私はアナログ写真の作品を製作しています。
2022年からは「結晶写真 -Crystal Photographs-」シリーズの制作開始。フィルムカメラで撮影した写真を使い、暗室で世界に１枚だけの作品を作っています。切り貼り等を行わず、暗室の中で石や植物などを使い、1枚の印画紙の上で写真を作り上げます。印画紙にフィルムカメラで撮影した写真を焼き付ける際に、偶然起こる現象が作品の重要な部分です。そのため、作品は2度と同じ姿になることはありません。

I create analog photography works.
Starting in 2022, I began producing the “Crystal Photographs” series, using photographs taken with a film camera to create a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork in the darkroom.

Without cutting or pasting, I use materials such as stones and plants to create a photograph on a single sheet of photographic paper using techniques like photograms and solarization.
The accidental phenomena that occur when exposing the photographic paper with the film camera are an important part of the artwork. As a result, no two pieces are identical.

この作品を作り出したのは、2021年11月に名古屋栄三越 ARTE CASAで開催した個展が大きなきっかけになっています。同年8月に開催した個展のDMを見て、ARTE CASAのキュレーターが声をかけてくださいました。

2015年から被写体との個人的な共同作業によるポートレート作品を制作してきました。私は彼女たちの人生の物語に耳を傾け、自分の人生の物語を共有し、一緒に彼女たちの存在の本質を掘り下げた肖像写真を撮影しました。このプロセスは私の仕事の貴重で重要な部分となり、人生の輪郭と人の独自性を探ることができました。

ポートレートと並行して、私はストリート写真も撮影していました。これは本能に導かれて自然に撮影した瞬間的な写真でしたが、これらの率直なスナップショットは私の作品ではないと考えていました。

名古屋栄三越 ARTE CASAの個展が決まったとき、ポートレート作品とストリート写真の両方を展覧会の構成に含めることにしました。当初、私はこの一見無関係に見える2つのスタイルが交わることはないと信じていました。しかし、それらが１つの壁の中で構成されたとき「細い線」が絡み合って2つを結びつけているような繋がりを感じました。あたかもポートレートとストリート写真がより深いレベルでつながっているかのようでした。

人々の生き方は、必ずしも私が彼女らから聞いた物語や、私が彼女らに思い描いた想像上の未来に限定されるものではないかもしれません。おそらく、彼女らの本質はすでに周囲の風景の中に埋め込まれているのだと思います。

人々や風景の美しさに出会うと、言葉では言い表せない感情が呼び起こされることがあります。見る方向は違っても、人とその世界は本質的に「同じ美しさ」を持っていることに気が付きました。

秋の木の葉が落ちるとき、誰かが市場で買い物をするとき、あなたが私の目を見つめるとき、これらの瞬間に、私たちがここに至るまでの背景と理由が織り交ぜられているのが見えます。

この認識は作品の中の分類を解体させ、私はポートレートとストリート写真の間に見えた「細い糸」を織り交ぜることにしました。 その結果、人生の忘れられない原風景をポートレートやスナップショットに重ねた「Crystal Photographs」シリーズが生まれました。

私の原風景である宮沢賢治の「銀河鉄道の夜」からインスピレーションを得た想像力を形にする探求の中で、暗室を構築し、フォトグラムとソラリゼーションという技術を使用してこのシリーズに命を吹き込みました。 このプロセスにより、人々や風景、人生の物語が私の中に呼び起こす無限の想像力を具体化し、命の輪郭を捉えていきます。

The creation of this body of work was greatly inspired by my solo exhibition held at ARTE CASA, Nagoya Sakaemachi Mitsukoshi in November 2021. It all started when the curator of ARTE CASA saw the direct mail (DM) for my previous solo exhibition held in August of the same year and reached out to me, leading to this new exhibition opportunity.

Since 2015, I have been working on portrait pieces through a personal collaborative process with the subjects. Listening to their life stories and sharing mine, we would together create portrait photographs that delved into the essence of their existence. This process has become a cherished and essential part of my work, allowing me to explore the contours of life and the uniqueness of individuals.

In parallel with portraits, I also engaged in street photography, capturing spontaneous moments guided purely by instincts. However, I considered these candid snapshots as distinct from my artistic works.

When the exhibition at ARTE CASA was confirmed, I decided to incorporate both portrait works and street photographs in the exhibition’s composition. Initially, I believed that these seemingly unrelated styles would not intersect. However, when they came together on one wall, I felt a sense of connection, as if “thin threads” were interweaving and binding the two together at a deeper level.

The way people live their lives may not necessarily be limited to the stories I hear in their portraits or the imaginative futures I envision for them. Perhaps, their essence is already embedded within the landscapes surrounding them.

Encountering beauty in people and landscapes often evokes indescribable emotions. I realized that despite looking in different directions, people and the world they inhabit share the same inherent “beauty.”

When autumn leaves fall, when someone shops at a market, when you look into my eyes – in these moments, I see the interwoven backgrounds and reasons that have led us to where we are. I capture these scenes, recognizing them as landscapes of life.

This realization prompted me to break down the divisions in my work and interweave the “thin threads” I saw between portraits and street photography. The result was the “Crystal Photographs” series, where I layered my unforgettable primal scenes from life into the portraits and snapshots.

In my quest to shape the imagination inspired by Kenji Miyazawa’s “Night on the Galactic Railroad,” I built a darkroom and used photogram and solarization techniques to bring this series to life. The process allows me to materialize the boundless imagination that the story evokes within me, capturing the contours of life, people, and landscapes.
