Introduction / このシリーズについて
関係性の中で揺らぎ続ける世界の構造を、光と揺らぎを通して可視化するシリーズ。化学反応により印画紙上の銀を溶かし、像をヴェールのように漂わせる。固定されたはずの像は崩れ、重力や水の流れに委ねて再配置される。水流や空気のわずかな変化が重なり、その都度異なる不可逆な像が立ち現れる。制作において作家の意図は契機に過ぎず、誕生と崩壊が同時に起こる現象を通して、世界の在り方を捉えている。

A series that visualizes a world in flux through light and instability.
Silver on photographic paper is dissolved through chemical reactions, allowing the image to drift like a veil. Fixed forms collapse and are reshaped by gravity and water. Subtle shifts in flow and air give rise to singular, irreversible images. Beyond intention, formation and dissolution unfold at once, revealing a world that exists only through relations.

縁起の観測と事象の定着

「Veils」は、化学変化によって印画紙上の銀を部分的に剥離させ、重力や水の流れに委ねて再配置するシリーズです。

そのプロセスは、2世紀の僧・龍樹（ナーガールジュナ）が説いた「空」や「縁起」という思想と、物質の次元で繋がっています。

日本で生まれ育つ中で、万物が関係性の中で移ろいゆく様を言葉以前の実感として受け取ってきた私にとって、「全ての事象が固定的な実体を持たず、相互の依存関係の中でのみ立ち現れる」という在り方は、ごく自然な世界の姿でした。印画紙の上で一度は結ばれた像を、化学反応によって再び溶かし漂わせる行為は、この世界の連関を観測するような体験でもあります。

制作において、私の意図はあくまで契機に過ぎません。化学反応、水分、時間、重力といった環境要因との相互作用の中で立ち現れる像は、作家のコントロールを超えた世界の姿を示しています。

一度定着した像が崩れ、別の形へと移行するその瞬間、写真は複製芸術であることを止め、二度と再現不可能な一回性のアウラを纏います。誕生と崩壊を同時に内包する姿は、私たちが生きる世界の不確かな、しかし確かな連関の肌触りそのものです。

Observation of Interconnectedness and the Fixation of Phenomena

“Veils” is a series in which the silver on photographic paper is partially delaminated through chemical reactions and repositioned by yielding to gravity and the flow of water. This process is connected, at a material level, with the philosophy of “Emptiness” (Sunyata) and “Dependent Origination” (Pratityasamutpada) as taught by the 2nd-century monk Nagarjuna.

Having been born and raised in Japan, I have always accepted the way all things fluctuate within their interconnectedness as a physical sensation that precedes language. To me, the principle that “all phenomena lack a fixed, independent identity and emerge only through mutual dependence” has always been the natural state of the world. The act of re-dissolving and drifting an image once fixed on the paper is, for me, an experience of observing the interconnections of this world.

In this process, my intention serves merely as a catalyst. The resulting image emerges through an interaction with environmental factors—chemical reactions, moisture, time, and gravity—revealing the state of the world that transcends the artist’s control.

At the very moment the stabilized image collapses and transitions into another form, the photograph ceases to be a medium of reproduction and instead clothes itself in a singular, irreproducible “Aura.” These forms, which encapsulate both birth and decay, are the very texture of the uncertain yet certain interconnectedness of the world in which we live.

Veils is a series that visualizes the structure of a world in constant flux through the interconnectedness of light and fluctuations.
